It’s getting dark again in Alaska.
I still haven’t gotten my SAD lamp out, which is dumb because I know how this goes. Also definitely late on vitamin D. Great work, Justin. haha
I was heading to LA when I wrote the original version of this and was VERY ready for some sun. Mostly it made me realize how much I start craving warmth when I haven’t done any of the little things that help me build some of it here.
So naturally I started scrolling through old trip videos.
This desert trip with the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund and Four Corners Guides kept coming up. The warm water. Sand absolutely everywhere no matter how hard we tried to keep it out of the tent. Mud that swallowed our calves when we tried to wade out.
And a bunch of people I’d mostly just met becoming friends really fast.
We laughed a lot. Sometimes we just floated around and didn’t say much. It was kinda chaotic and also exactly what I needed.
Alaska winter is its own thing. The dark can get heavy. Everything slows down, including me, whether I want it to or not.
I used to look through summer photos like I was trying to hang onto summer. I don’t think that’s really it anymore.
I came here for the seasons.
Even this one.
Ask me again in February tho. lol
